Spooky Halloween Mantel

Our youngest son is into all things Halloween this year. He’s usually afraid of anything creepy, but has lately been asking for me to decorate for the upcoming holiday. So today I took full advantage and created this spooky mantel. I hope he loves it!

Comment below and let me know what your favorite part is! The Man in the Moon face sign has to be my favorite! (Tap HERE to see it on our Etsy Shop.) I have been seeing them in home décor photos for years and finally decided to make one for myself. Since we have a CNC, I gave mine a different spin by carving it. I love the depth the carved features add to the sign.

The rest of this styled mantel is made up of inexpensive items that I have collected over the years.

The florals were originally green. I spray painted them black at first, but then ran out of paint so I finished them in bronze color that I had on hand. I really like how they turned out; using two colors gave them a more realistic look.

The pumpkins are few years old. I got a bunch of them out of season at Walmart one year. I can’t believe how much use I’ve gotten from those little guys! This year I left them neutral tones, but it would be easy to paint them for a totally different look next year.

The black lace is just a tablecloth! It was easy to drape up on the mantel. I can’t remember where I found it last year, but it had to be either Walmart or Dollar General.

The skulls are also a last year find from Dollar General. The best time to shop for things like this are after the season is over. We all know how early stores switch to the next season so grab your bargains as soon as the holiday passes.

I found the spiders at our local Walmart this year for just $2. I attached them to everything with glue dots, because that’s all I had. I do not recommend using glue dots on a painted surface, like the wall. It could peel up the paint. (The only reason I did was because we plan to add shiplap to this wall eventually.)

It was so much fun creating this Halloween inspired mantel! I hope you enjoyed reading how I did it and maybe even saw ideas of how to add a little spook to your home, too. You don’t have to spend a bunch of money to get this look, it can all be found at Walmart or Dollar General.

Don’t forget to always shop your house first! You never know what you might find stashed from years ago. Here are a few other DIY ideas:

  • Paint faux pumpkins or outdated florals for a fresh look

  • Cut out paper spiders, crows or bats

  • Check local thrift stores for creepy finds

Decorating for Halloween doesn’t have to be hard or time consuming, just have fun with it!

Have fun getting spooky,

Megan
